Flying Unicorn January 2016 Guest Designer

As the January 2016 Guest Designer for the Flying Unicorn this month I was honored to work with all of the kits. JAN MAIN KIT- YOUR PASSION. YOUR ART. is absolutely full of gorgeousness! I love the papers, the colors, the flowers.. I love it all!! If you double your pleasure and purchase the JAN MIXED PASSION KIT- YOUR PASSION. YOUR ART. , you will have more beautiful blooms to coordinate with your projects.

The frames are a Sizzix die cut. I thought the wood pattern on the 13 Arts  paper was perfect to create frames. I backed the paper die cut with the chipboard to give it a bit of dimension.

I used the piece of paper that I tore out from the middle of the top layer and created rolled roses to add to my floral clusters. They are so easy to make and all you really need are scraps of paper.

The wood letters are awesome to work with. I just used the Prima Chalk ink Dirty Pink and brushed it over the Beautiful 13 Arts Secret Letters title. I touched up the outer part ever so lightly with the Prima Chalk ink Old Road.

I love butterflies. Below this post you will find the butterfly file I created for this kit.  I just use a coat of clear crackle paint and some Stickles to give them sparkle.

The little leaves were created with my Martha Stewart rose leaf punch. It is a perfect size for smaller flowers or to use as fillers. I used more scraps of 13 Arts paper that I had left over from the 6x6 pad  in the  JAN SMALL ART BIG PASSION KIT- YOUR PASSION. YOUR ART.   used on the Off The Page Coaster Set Mini Album I did.

And to match the beautiful kit, I dug deep through my butterfly files I created, to add to your projects. All you have to do is down load them print them up, cut them out, and adorn them as you will. The size I printed them up for this layout was on a 5x7 piece of white cardstock. The image you see below is about the size you get on 5x7. You can print them up bigger or smaller. Just change the size of cardstock you print them on.

Thank you joining me today. Check out the Flying Unicorn kit

Lindy's Stamp Gang 2016 January Color Challenge

What a way to start off the New Year!!! With a gorgeous palette from Lindy's Stamp Gang for the Color Challenge this month. I have been honored to have been invited to spend another year with Lindy's Stamp Gang!! There are simply no other color products that compare. Starbursts and Glitz  and Moon Shadow mists and Flat Fabios oh my... The Mega Set for this months Color Challenge has it all. Plus the fabulous Embossing powders. Two Toned Embossing powders you say??? Oh yes... Fabulous!!
I created a layout using Sizzix die cuts, Dusty Attic Chipboard, Prima and Recollection flowers and Lindy's Sprays and Magicals of course! The photo features my sisters youngest grandchild.
To prepare my surface, I covered a 12x12 piece of corrugated cardboard with patterned paper. I then took 3 pieces of corrugated cardboard, covered them with the same paper and adhered them by layering them on my 12x12 piece.  I then painted the whole layout with white gesso. Once it dried I white washed the background using Magicals in mad hatter mint green, sweet violet purple teal and bodacious blush. Then I added some MoonShadow mist in Treasure Island Aqua using a small paint brush.

I colored all of my white flowers using the sprays. The blue flowers were sprayed with Mad Hatter Mint Starburst, the purple flowers are Open Arms Amethyst Starburst and the brown aqua flowers are Treasure Island Aqua Moon Shadow Mist. I simply adore the sparkling aqua that comes through and settles down in different spots.

The Dusty Attic chipboard title was primed with white gesso, them painted with a heavy mixture of Mad Hatter Mint Green Magicals.

Here you can see the dimension of the layers in my layout. The white gesso covered the raw edges of the corrugated cardboard.

I sprinkled the layout with a few jewels placed randomly around the page. I also spattered on Treasure Island Aqua Moon Shadow mist.

I took a piece of cheese cloth and sprayed it with Treasure Island Aqua Moon Shadow Mist. This gave it  a lovely tea stained look with a bit of aqua color. The die cut frames were all primed with white gesso, then sprayed with a combo of Mad hatter Mint Green starburst and treasure island aqua Moon Shadow. The trick is to spray on a non stick craft mat and swirl your pieces into the spray. This gives you full coverage with a mottled look. The middle part of this layout was inspired by a canvas  my dear friend Jennifer Snyder and her watercolor canvas she did for Blitsy.

The die cut leaves were painted heavily with Magicals in Mad Hatter Mint green and bodacious blush. The butterflies were painted with Sweet violet Purple teal Magicals. I finished them with a flower stamen for the antennae and some jewels for the body. I dipped the tips of the antennae in Sweet Violet Purple teal Magicals.

Here is the gorgeous color palette for the January Challenge.

Off The Page Project for The Flying Unicorn as Guest Designer

I am honored and excited that I was invited to be the 1st Guest Designer for The Flying Unicorn for 2106!! When I opened my box, I was tickled pink!!! really tickled!! I have had a creative blast working with the January 2016  Your Passion, Your Art Main Kit and all of the coordinating add-on kits,  Mixed Art, Mixed Passion, and the Small Art Big Passion kits. They are all so versatile. If you like layouts, cards, mixed media and altered projects, then these kits are for you. There is a little bit of everything for everyone.
I will be revealing my projects done with the kits throughout the month of January. There is so much to create with. For my first project, I used the Off The Page product that is included in the Main kit. It is a wooden coaster set. If you know me , then you know I love mini albums. I can turn anything into a mini!! So this is what I did with the coaster set. I just couldn't resist. For this, I used the The Small Art Big Passion kit.

For the coaster holder, I inked all of the edges using the  Prima Vintage Pink Chalk ink. Then I covered the entire outside using the 13 Arts Secret Letters 6x6 paper pad. The scale of the print is perfect for small scale projects. The front was adorned with Petaloo flowers ad the Prima Shabby Chic resins. I adhered pieces of the trim to the sides.

Here is view of the back.

For the mini album itself, I had my husband drill 3 holes though the tops of the coasters once each one was covered with the paper. The cover was adorned with butterflies  from the paper I fussy cut, the flowers, a resin, and the Prima metal embellishments, I slid the darling paper clip onto the paper. I used 3 gold book rings from my own stash to hold the mini together. Then I added seam binding ribbon from my stash to the tops of the book rings.

I fussy cut the Prima Lace Stickers for the title and adhered them to a piece of patterned paper and inked the edges before applying them to the back of the mini. Then I used fussy cut butterflies, and added the flower and the Prima leaves came from the Mixed Passion kit.

Here is a side view of my chunky little mini.

I hope you were inspired to do something with the Coaster Set. There is plenty of room on the inside to display your favorite photos. Please join us at The Flying Unicorn in the month of January to see what the rest of the design team had created  using the kits. Make 2016 the year of creative genius!!
