Dusty Attic January 2016 Inspiration Moodboard Challenge.

The January MoodBoard for Dusty Attic is incredibly gorgeous as always. It reminds me of the Arizona Green Tea colors.

I wanted to keep the layout, light and airy and delicate, so I toned down the colors a bit but stayed true to the Moodboard, because that is the mood it put me in, light, airy and delicate. I prepare my base by using 2 pieces of 12x12 corrugated cardboard. I cut out a square opening on 1 of them and layered it over the solid piece. This gave me a dimensional background with a faint shadow box effect. I covered it with gesso, used a little Dusty Attic texture paste over it then let it dry completely before using color. Now the fun begins. I used Lindys Stamp Gang T-Bird Turqoise Flat Shots to cover the background. I also used Pink Ladies Pink Flat Shots and Merry Go Round Green with a paintbrush  and dabbed away until I got a watercolor feel to the entire background.

I prepared all of my Dusty Attic Chipboard with white gesso. Then in various strengths, I diluted some Lindys Stamp Gang Color Shots in Pink Ladies Pink for the Corner Flourish #1.

I chose some Dusty In Bloom Bridal Veil and a couple of flowers from my own stash and smothered them in gesso. Let them dry.

The word Adorable from the Word Pack #12, was then painted using a mixture of Lindys Flat  Shots in Merry Go Round Green and T-bird Turquoise.

Here is a closeup of the other corner of blooms. I just painted them with a more concentrated formula of Lindys Flat Shots in Pink Ladies Pink and T-Bird Turquoise.

Just another view.

The die cut leaves were painted with Lindys Merry Go Round green with just a touch of T-Bird Turquoise, then they were tucked up under the blooms.

The frame was also colored in Pink Ladies Pink. In this shot you can see a bit more of the dimension. I placed a small piece of corrugated cardboard behind the smaller Vintage Frame to raise it a bit.

Check back every month at Dusty Attic because the design team has so much gorgeous inspiration and The Mood Board Challenge is open to anyone who wants to give it a shot. You can have a chance to win a lovely prize pack from Dusty Attic. Just let the Inspiration/Moodboard  take you away!!
This is the Moodboard for January 2016. Wait until you see February...sigh...

Dusty Attic January 2016 The Great Outdoors

Hello Dusty Attic Lovers!! I bring to you the Great Outdoors! My daughter is a chef, as well as an avid fisherwoman. When Grouper is in fishing season in Florida, she hops onto a charter boat to get the catch of the day. I "fished" through my Dusty Attic stash to find foliage that reminded me of the sea. This is what I came up with.

I followed through the theme with papers that has fishies on them. I love the colors of the sea, and had to compliment them with an accent color of coral. I used the Dusty Attic Corrugated Cardboard to accent and lift the layout giving it dimension. I painted it using Dusty In Colour Hot Chocolate, then sprayed it with Lindys shimmering spray to highlight the blues in the paper.

I painted the chipboard with the Dusty In Colour in Hot Chocolate and sprayed it with color once the acrylic dried. It is a real deep rich chocolate color. I love it! Perfect for tree bark, or leafy stems.

I did  the same to the title wi the brown base and spray. I love that you can still see the brown under the blue. Kind of like a rusted patina look.

I used a different color spray to highlight the Swirly Vine. More of a coral gold
ish color. The brown lends a nice base for the sprays. I just wanted a little shimmer for this layout.

I really love the Laurel Sprigs. They would also make a nice filler in a floral cluster.

Thank you for joining me for my first post in 2016. I am looking forward to a creatively productive year with Dusty Attic. I hope you keep coming back for inspiration from our delicious Design Team!! They are truly amazing!!

Until we meet again...

Flying Unicorn January 2016 Guest Designer

Glad I was the first Guest Designer of the year for Flying Unicorn...I would hate a tough act to follow!!! I have had a creative blast working with all of the beautiful products  in all of the January Your Passion Your Art kits. The 13 Arts Secret Letters collection of paper is simply beautiful! I chose to accent A Letter To You  with purple. and use the inks and sprays that were in the kits.
i dry brushed a very light coat of white gesso to the entire paper, then mixed some Prima cold pink mica powder, included in the Mixed Art kit, with water in a spray bottle and sprayed the edges of the background paper and corrugated cardboard background.

I love the 13 Arts Secret Letters laser cut words. I simply colored the Dream word with the Chalk Ink in Dirty Pink. Another wonderful product are the Secret Letters sticker words.

The only thing I used from my stash are some Prima Blooms that I have been hoarding for a while now. I thought they matched perfectly with the colors in the kits. I tucked a few in here and there.

I fussy cut the cutouts  from Remember Me - Secret Letters Collection paper and layered them on the page. I cut the doily images and tucked them in here and there.

It is difficult to photograph the shimmer of the Mica powder, but it really does shimmer in the light.

I fussy cut the butterflies from one of the papers. I added the little black dots and colored the antennae with a Sharpie and then covered the entire butterflies with clear crackle paint.

The frame was die cut using a Sizzix die, painted with gesso, then using the Mica powder while the gesso was still wet, I finger painted the powder into the gesso.

Thank you Alda Stevens and Flying Unicorn for having me as the January Guest Designer. I really enjoyed working with all of the gorgeous kits, and hope on e day to work with you once again!!. It has been a creative blast for me.

Canvas shadow box wall hanging... Flying Unicorn Guest Designer...

As Guest Designer at The Flying Unicorn this month, I have had the absolute pleasure to create with all of the  January product packed into the kits and the coordinating add-ons. For this project I used the Your Passion Your Art Mixed Art Kit.  It features an 8x10 black canvas. I decided to use the backside of the canvas in a shadow box kind of style. I backed the inside of the reverse side with a piece of paper from the Your Passion Your Art Main Kit. It features beautiful 13 Arts paper.
The only thing I added from my own stash is the Silk May Arts Ribbon which I colored using the Chalk Ink from the Small Art Big Passion kit.  I just wrapped it around the canvas edge using 2 sided tape to adhere it well.

The canvas can also be displayed on a small wooden Photo easel as shown in this photo.

I used various flowers from the JAN MIXED PASSION KIT. I also picked apart some of the flowers and layered them differently to give me a wider variety of design.

The beautiful  Secret letters laser cut words in the main kit were colored with the Chalk Ink then I finger painted some of the 13@arts silver glitter paint over the letters to give them a bit of sparkle.

Here is another word from the set. I also rubbed some of the silver glitter paint over the canvas. I painted over the exposed staples with black gesso.

Once the background was covered with the patterned paper, I popped the photo off the page by mounting it on a piece of corrugated cardboard, then adhered it to the background.

I did a small floral cluster on one corner of the canvas. I love the Prima velvety leaves. And the Petaloo flowers are so dainty.

I created the other floral cluster in the opposite corner. I added the tiny Metal Embellishments by Prima. They look like little snaps.

Thank   you for joining me today. I really enjoyed working on this canvas with all of the beautiful products in the kit. Head on over to  Flying Unicorn and purchase the January Main kit, along with the other coordinating specialty kits. When you mix and match, the possibilities are endless. I love that they all coordinate with one another making it so easy to stay versatile and creative. Stay tuned as I am not done with projects throughout the month!! Visit the Flying Unicorn Blog for more inspiration and instructional videos from the design team. There is always a ton of inspiration!!

Lindys Stamp gang. Think Pink...

Hello Lindy's Stamp Gang Lovers!! With pleasure, I bring to you new inspiration for the new year. Today I wanted to show how you can use a variety of hues from the same color palette. Lindys has their products grouped by color, so you can see what is available in a specific color. I chose to use 3 colors from the Sprays By Color section. I chose PINK!! Of course what are beautiful flowers without a touch of green. I prepared everything by giving it a light dry brushed coat of gesso. Paper flowers, leaves (sprayed with Aloha before adhering them) ) chipboard etc. Once everything was adhered to my background. I just sprayed away!!

I did not saturate the flowers with color, I just gave them a light coat of spraythem touched the middles with the darker pink.

When the layout was complete, I gave it a once over with Frost Bitten Fuscia and the mica part of the spray settled in the grooves of the textured background.

I clustered my flowers leaves and butterflies around the frames which I left white to emphasize the pinks in the layout.

I used embossing powder on the chipboard. I love that the embossing powder is 2 toned. It gives your pieces a gorgeous dimension.

Here is a closeup of the flowers. You can see some of the gesso in parts as I wanted a white washed look.

The next 2 photos,  you can see how I layered the corrugated cardboard for dimension.

Thank you for joining me this week. All of the colors I used are listed below. I randomly used each pink around the layout, I hope you give your next project a try using colors from a specific group for a monochromatic look. Then add an accent color as I did by using the green. Until next time, Color your world with Lindys Stamp Gang.
