Lindy's Stamp Gang May 2016 Color Challenge

I was inspired by the flowers in the color challenge photo. I absolutely love water lilies and the fact that these are purple makes me love them even more. Lindy's has the perfect shades of colors for any project you may be working on. Every moth, Lindy's creates color boards perfectly. They take the guess work out of choosing colors. The color scheme for May is one of may favorite because it contains 3 of my top 5 colors. Purple (in 2 shades), blue (in the perfect shade...lol) and green. Throw in the touch of yellow and you have the makings of a color perfect masterpiece. For this layout, I used all 5 colors in the May 2016 Limited Edition Spray Set, and heat embossed my frames with 1 of the colors in MAY 2016 Limited Edition Embossing Powder Set. Give yourself the gift of color and get the MAY 2016 Limited Edition Mega Set.  You wont be disappointed.

To start my layout, I mounted a piece of patterned paper onto a piece of 12x12 corrugated cardboard using ModPodge. Then I gave it a coat of clear gesso mixed with a little white gesso to give it a very light white wash look. This also primes your piece like canvas so that your sprays have a wonderful surface to work with.

I spritzed the background very lightly with water, then added FRENCH LILAC (starburst), TIFFANYLOU BLUE (starburst), and TEA POT PURPLE (starburst).  Once the colors were on, I tipped the layout and let the colors run in a few different directions. The primed paper allows the colors to bleed into one another without soaking into the paper right away . The gesso helps it to create a slippery surface. Just enough time to work with the sprays.

Once I was satisfied that I had enough color on my background, I added the framed photo and the flowers and leaves in an arrangement diagonally on the page. I created the waterlilies using a Sizzix die and the middles were created using a small sunburst punch. One the pieces were diecut and punched, I laid them out on a non stick craft mat and sprayed the flowers with Tea Pot Purple starburst, then while the flowers were still wet, I brushed the tips of each petal with French Lilac starburst. This created a two toned colored flower. I sprayed the punched out sunburst pieces with FRENCH LILAC (starburst) and PINEAPPLE PARADISE (flat fabio), then assembled them in layers and placed them onto the layered flowers. The blue flowers were sprayed with TIFFANYLOU BLUE (starburst). The leaves were die cut and sprayed with BELLS OF IRELAND (starburst) and a little of TIFFANYLOU BLUE (starburst) was brushed over the leaves on the edges.

Here is a closer look at the flowers. You can see the tail of the dragonfly lifted off of the page as if in flight. I only adhere the body to the page, then lift the wings which were doubled and layered to give them more dimension.

The small textured rocks on the page are Art Basics Art Stones by Prima. The dragonflies were printed out on watercolor paper and painted with FRENCH LILAC (starburst), and TIFFANYLOU BLUE (starburst).

I mixed the Art Stones in a small cup (medicine cup) with Soft Gloss Gel and TIFFANYLOU BLUE (starburst). Using a paintbrush, I lifted the clumps of Art Stones from the cup and adhered them onto the layout following the lines of the frame and floral design.
